At the start of the month, Prismatic Wasteland challenged TTRPG bloggers to design new TTRPG resolution systems to bring in the New Year.
As my entry to the challenge, I bring you: Sword Slash to the Chest, and You’re on Fire, a silly, childish combat resolution system that might actually fit in a game homaging stuff like One Punch Man, Discworld or Looney Tunes.
The player who initiated the fight begins by describing their first attack, the second player responds by describing their defence and then following up with an attack of their own, which is then defended in turn. This repeats, ideally gaining in silliness overtime. If a player laughs during the fight, the player who made them laugh gains a point.
The first player to 5 points wins the fight and can describe their final blow against the opponent!
I’ve always wanted to make a try-not-to-laugh mechanic after seeing Purrsuit by nicolemanatee. It seems super fun for party game vibes.
Only a short post this time, I promise I didn’t make a Substack just to write about this silly meme mechanic. The first proper post is coming soon so subscribe to get notified!
